Pastor's Blog - 06/28/2008
.
This week we are dedicating our new pulpit.  To what are we charging this mere piece of furniture?  To be the cradle of what is the apogee of our Christian walk, the Holy Bible. Then, from this pulpit we will expect to be reproved, corrected, instructed, and made wise for salvation (2 Timothy 3:15,16).  My prayer is that this pulpit will be the sentinel of truth and altar from which we will see the glory of God.

In this period in human history, a period of great confusion and hopelessness, there is an urgent need for the Bible to shine brightly as a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalms 119:105).  Without any doubt the devil has infiltrated even the Christian church with ideas to dim this light.  In the face of this, what are we going to do?  Let’s preach the Bible with all our strength, and let’s surrender our lives to its dictates.

Roger Olson gives a powerful reminder in The Mosaic of Christian Belief pointing to 2 Timothy’s claim that the Bible is theopneustos (God-breathed). This means that in our quest to determine truth for our lives, “no appeal can be made against Scripture.”  It is the highest, dictating authority.

In consecrating this pulpit we are dedicating ourselves to receive “the word with all readiness of mind” (Acts 17:11).
